WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – UCLA freshman linebacker Jayon Brown was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Brown, who is on UCLA's kick coverage teams, was credited with two tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Brown's hustle helped him be in the right place to recover a fumbled kickoff, late in the second quarter, at the Colorado 14-yard line. Three plays later the Bruins were in the end zone to take a 21-10 lead.
Brown was also credited with a forced fumble on a fourth quarter kickoff. The ball was recovered this time by the Buffs at their own 21-yard line.
On the season, the newcomer has played in all eight games, primarily on special teams. He has totaled five tackles, all solo stops and added the forced fumble and fumble recovery.
