The game against USC last Thursday was a great opportunity for us to honor our seniors and make a statement heading into the NCAA Tournament. We won, 4-1, with the scoring spread out among four different players, and were able to cheer on our seniors as they played significant and well-earned minutes. It was an inspiring team effort that left us feeling confident and prepared to begin NCAA tournament play this weekend.
We took a few days to recover and regroup over the long weekend. I had a very fun, relaxing weekend and got some much-needed studying done. I even went to a few museums for one of my classes, which really opened my eyes to just how much there is to do in LA. The Getty Museum is literally five minutes down the street, and it has a ton of exhibits, tours, and even cafes and gardens to experience. It really is one of the coolest museums I’ve been to, and I am going to make an effort to go more often (not just when I have an assignment to complete!).
Another interesting thing right in Westwood is the Arts ReStore that the Hammer Museum is putting on. They’ve taken empty storefronts in Westwood and rented them out to different unique vendors who want to display and sell art. One of the stores, Whitman’s Beard, has a collection of used books for sale. I went down twice on Sunday and bought a couple of really interesting books. I found a 1946 edition of my favorite novel in pristine condition, which I was very excited about! I’m hoping that the shop is successful and they are able to open a used bookstore in Westwood (though I would probably spend a fortune there!). I think that it is a really cool idea to enhance the community in Westwood and bring people together to support the arts and humanities.
We all got back together on Monday for practice and weights. It felt good to accomplish some hard work at a competitive practice and challenging workout with Coach Linn. We all are starting to feel the excitement for the tournament, and wanted to make sure we were putting 100% effort in. The selection show was on Monday as well, so we went to Barney’s Beanery in Westwood as a team to have lunch and watch. We are pleased with our challenging bracket, as we know that tough competition breeds high level performance. Our sights are set on Friday’s game against San Diego State.
Our game is at 7pm at Drake Stadium, and we have been working hard all week in preparation. Since midterms are over, we all feel a slight relief from the pressures of school just in time to focus on our first round of playoffs. We understand that it’s a one-and-done process, so we want to make sure that we play this game with heart, precision, and even desperation. I feel prepared and confident heading into Friday evening, so be sure to catch the game! Go Bruins!
