SEATTLE - Junior Karsta Lowe led the Bruins with 16 kills, adding six digs with a .375 hitting percentage, while senior Kelly Reeves posted her fifth straight double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs, also swinging .375, but UCLA lost in three at third-ranked Washington on Wednesday at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Senior Mariana Aquino added five kills with only one error in 11 attempts (.364), junior Megan Moenoa had 37 assists and six digs, sophomore Karly Drolson posted 11 digs and freshman Jessyka Ngauamo recorded five digs. The Bruins (13-12, 4-11 Pac-12) hit .245 for the match.

The first set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. The Bruins’ first lead came at 6-5 following successive kills from Lowe and sophomore Maddy Klineman. After the Huskies netted the next two, a Washington service error and a Lowe kill put the Bruins ahead again at 8-7. Washington (22-1, 14-1 Pac-12) responded with a 7-2 run to go ahead by four at 14-10, and despite a trio of ties later on, maintained its advantage for the rest of the set.

At 18-15, the Bruins scored five of the next seven to even things at 20. Lowe had three kills during the run, while Reeves added a kill and a block with junior Zoë Nightingale. The score was tied again at 21 and 22, but the Huskies recorded the last three points of the set to take the opener 25-22. Lowe had seven kills in the first to pace the Bruins with only one error in 11 attempts (.545). Reeves was 3-for-7 in kill attempts with no miscues, as the Bruins were out-hit .297 to .219.

The Bruins never led in the second set, as the Huskies scored four of the first five points. Trailing by three at 10-7, the Bruins scored three in a row to tie things up thanks to a Washington service error and kills from Reeves and Lowe. After ties at 11 and 12, the Huskies netted the next three to go up 15-12.

Ten sideouts later, back-to-back Lowe kills got the Bruins to within one at 20-19. However, Washington scored five of the last six points of the second to take it 25-20. Lowe again led the Bruins with six kills, while Reeves added five with only one error in seven attempts. UCLA hit .367, but was still out-hit by Washington, who swung at a .379 clip.

After dropping three of the first four points of set three, UCLA scored four in a row on two kills by Reeves, a Washington attack error and a Moenoa/Nightingale block to go up 5-3. With the score 6-5, the Bruins recorded five in a row on successive kills by Nightingale, Lowe and Aquino and back-to-back Washington attack errors to take a set-best lead of six at 11-5.

UCLA still held an 18-14 lead when Washington made its comeback, scoring 11 of the last 14 points of the set to take the third 25-21. Reeves led the Bruins with five kills, while Aquino and Lowe added three apiece. UCLA still out-hit Washington .156 to .118.

The Bruins play their final regular-season road match on Friday at Washington State at 7 p.m. A live video stream for the contest will be available at UCLABruins.com.
