NCAA Champion UCLA Baseball Team Honored by Los Angeles City Council
By: UCLA Athletics

Members of the UCLA Baseball team spent the morning at City Hall today as the Los Angeles City Council recognized the team for its 2013 NCAA Championship run during a session of the council.

Members of the city council spoke about UCLA's accomplishments last season during the meeting before head coach John Savage stepped up to the podium to say a few words about the team. The council then presented Coach Savage and the player representatives with certificates of congratulations before posing with pictures with the team to cap off the ceremony.

After winning the first NCAA Championship in program history in June, the UCLA Baseball team has been recognized by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, SportsCenter, the Dedeaux Foundation, the California Senate and State Assembly and now the Los Angeles City Council.

The Bruins went undefeated throughout the 2013 postseason, making them just the third team in college baseball history to advance through the postseason with a 10-0 record.

UCLA also made history by posting the lowest team ERA in the College World Series' aluminum bat era (0.80 ERA) and becoming the first team to complete the College World Series without allowing more than one run in each game.

UCLA finished its 2013 campaign with a 49-17 overall mark, with its 49 wins ranking second all-time in school history (UCLA went 51-17 in 2010). Additionally, the Bruins tied a school record with 21 conference victories and finished within the top three of the Pac-12 standings for the eighth straight year.

UCLA will start its title defense in 2014 on Friday, Feb. 14 against the Portland Pilots at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
