Six Bruins Headed to U.S. Youth National Team Training Camps
By: UCLA Athletics
Less than a week after winning the NCAA championship, several members of the UCLA women's soccer team will be heading out to Sunrise, Fla. from Dec. 14-21 for concurrent U.S. Youth National Team training camps. Four Bruins will be with the Under-23 squad, while two others will be with the Under-20s.

Joining the U-23s are defender Abby Dahlkemper and midfielders Sarah Killion, Sam Mewis and Jenna Richmond. Goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland and forward Darian Jenkins will represent the Bruins at the U-20 camp.

Dahlkemper is a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and two-time first-team All-American. She led a UCLA defense that finished with 18 shutouts and a national-best team goals against average of 0.30. Killion, Mewis and Richmond made up one of the most dynamic midfields in the nation and combined for 10 goals and 26 assists. Killion and Richmond were first-team NSCAA All-Pacific Region honorees, and Mewis earned second-team All-Pac-12 acclaim for a third consecutive year. Rowland earned second-team All-American honors after setting a new school record with 15 solo shutouts and posting a national-best 0.27 goals against average. Jenkins earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors and third-team NSCAA All-America acclaim after leading the team in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points.

This is the first U-23 camp under new head coach Steve Swanson, who coached Killion and Mewis with the U-20s when the team won gold at the 2012 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup. Swanson is also the head coach at Virginia.

The U-20s' camp will serve as the final preparation for the 2014 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship, which will take place Jan. 9-19 in George Town, Cayman Islands. The top three finishes at that tournament will advance to the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup that will be held in Canada in August 2014.
