#16 UCLA Posts Second Win in a Row at Washington State

Senior Ting Quah, sophomore Katie Kinnear and freshman Linnea Mack each won a pair of races on Saturday, as the 16th-ranked Bruins won 11 of the 12 events in a 142-80 win at Washington State.

Senior Lauren Baker and freshmen Ashley Tse, Madison White and Brigitte Winkler also won races, while the 400 Freestyle Relay team set the Bruins' fourth Gibb Pool record of the weekend.

The Bruins (8-1 in dual meets) won each of the first three 50 yard races, the Backstroke, the Breaststroke and the Butterfly. Mack was first in the Back with a 25.84, while senior Jesse Bergman placed third. In the 50 Breast, Winkler (30.65) led a 1-2-3 UCLA finish, with Tse (30.68) and junior Taylor Carlson (30.71) blanketing a Bruin victory. In the 50 Fly, Kinnear won (24.96), while sophomore Madison Applegate was third.

Another Bruin freshman would win the 200 Free, as White had a time of 1:53.06. Baker was third in the race. Mack earned her second win of the afternoon in the 50 Free with a time of 23.88, as senior Kathryn Murphy placed second.

Quah then posted back-to-back victories. In the 100 Individual Medley, she paced a Bruin 1-2-3-4 finish with a 58.24. Senior Anna Senko was second, followed by Tse and junior Noelle Tarazona. Quah notched another win in the 100 Fly (54.96), as Tarazona was second.

Washington State (2-5) claimed the 100 Free in the next event, as junior Monica Dornick (52.43) was second. UCLA though would win the last four races. Kinnear won her second race of the afternoon in the 100 Back with a time of 56.42, with Senko posting the second-best time. In the 500 Free, the top three times belonged to the Bruins, as Baker had a 4:54.42, followed by junior Ally Loper and sophomore Arlyn Upshaw.

In the last individual race, Tse won the 100 Breast (1:05.05) and was followed in time by junior Jessica Khojasteh and Carlson. The Bruins then set their fourth Gibb Pool record of the weekend in the 400 Free Relay. The quartet of Quah, Mack, Murphy and Dornick posted a time of 3:25.66. The foursome of Kinnear, Senko, Tarazona and White had the second-best time.

The next competition for the UCLA swimming and diving team is Friday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m. against third-ranked Stanford at Spieker Aquatics Center. The meet will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
