HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The 13th-ranked Bruins took advantage of a two-out error in the top of the seventh to tie the game and went on to score six times in the eighth to defeat Hawai'i 7-2 on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UCLA (3-0) earned the #1 seed in the bracket portion of the tournament to take place on Saturday and will face #4 Delaware at 2 p.m. PT. Live audio and stats will be available at

The Bruins had 11 hits, with senior Alyssa Tiumalu and junior Gracie Goulder posting three apiece and freshman Delaney Spaulding recording a pair. Spaulding and Tiumalu each drove in two runs.

Sophomore Paige McDuffee earned the victory in the circle, striking out five in eight innings, giving up two runs (one earned) and two hits. McDuffee retired the first 15 batters of the game before allowing a home run to lead off the sixth. She also set down the side in order in the eighth.

The Bruins had opportunities to score in the first six innings, but left runners on in the first, third and sixth frames and the bases loaded in the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lindsey Willmon led off with a homer to left-center to put the Rainbow Wahine (2-1) up 1-0.

Bruin magic cropped up in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. With two outs and freshman Gabrielle Maurice at first, junior Ally Carda lifted a high fly ball to right, but Hawai'i right fielder Keiki Carlos dropped the ball, allowing Maurice to scamper home with the Bruins' first run of the game.

After the Rainbow Wahine were retired in the bottom of the seventh, the international tiebreaker rule was put in place, with Spaulding starting off the top of the eighth at second base after making the last out of the seventh. Junior Stephany LaRosa sacrificed Spaulding to third and sophomore Mysha Sataraka doubled her in with a rocket to right to put the Bruins up 2-1.

With junior Tara Mueller running for Sataraka, Tiumalu launched her second homer of the day after leaving the yard earlier against Hampton, a two-run shot to left-center to make it 4-1. Senior Jessica Hall followed with a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a single to left-center by sophomore Brittany Moeai. One out later, Goulder singled off the pitcher's leg to plate Hall with the Bruins' fifth run.

A single up the middle by Maurice and a walk to Carda loaded the bases for Spaulding, who doubled to right-center to bring home Goulder and Maurice to make it 7-1.

Hawai'i scored a run in the eighth on an RBI ground out, but the Bruins would hold on for the 7-2 comeback victory.
