UCLA placed fifth at the Aggie Invitational.
UCLA Track and Field Finishes Fifth in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UCLA men and women’s track and field teams placed fifth in the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational that was held in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium this weekend. The 10th ranked women compiled 72 points while the men’s squad totaled 62 points.

The men recorded eight top-5 finishes with one overall victory while the women also tallied eight top-5 finishes and won two events.

“The two highlights of the meet for the women and the men were; Kylie Price who had ran an excellent race in the 60, and beat some very fast ladies including sprinters from LSU, TCU, Texas A&M,” director of track and field Mike Maynard said. “Nick Scarvelis threw a new lifetime PR of 62-4.50 in the shot put, and won the meet on his last throw.”

Leading the way for the Bruins with an individual win on the men’s side was Nicholas Scarvelis in the shot put. Scarvelis, heaved the shot a lifetime-best 62-4.50 on his last attempt to earn the lone UCLA win. Freshman Braheme Days followed in the event to place fourth with a mark of 59-2.

Kylie Price, the national leader in the long jump took the weekend off away from the runway but did compete in the 60m, where she won the event in a time of 7.48.

The high jump proved to be a strong event for the Bruins as Caroline Gyllenbern and Zibby Boyer placed 1-2. Gyllenbern cleared 5-7.25 to win the event while Boyer followed with a leap of 5-5.25.

In the 800m, Nick Hartle placed second with a time of 1:51.85. Also earning a top-5 finish was Austin O’Neil in the mile with a fourth place time of 4:13.48. Michael McCabe was the first to score points for the Bruins as he placed second in the 5,000m with a time of 14:30.65. The DMR finished third with a 9:50.22.

In the field, Cody Crampton cleared 6-8 to place fourth in the high jump while Alec Faldermeyer recorded a mark of 64-6.75 to place second in the weight throw.

On the women’s side, the distance squad also scored some key points. Elle Sanders placed third in the mile with a time of 4:57.60. Jennifer Owen took home a third place finish, running 9:47.30 in the 3,000m. The DMR placed second with an 11:35.71.

In the field, Ida Storm finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 64-9.25. Kayla Mallett cleared 12-6.75 in the pole vault to finish fourth while Tatum Souza recorded 3,809 points in the pentathlon to finish third overall.

UCLA will split its squad next weekend as once again the Bruins will head to Albuquerque, N.M., and Seattle, Wash., to participate in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational and the Husky Classic.
