SEATTLE, Wash. – The UCLA track and field team wrapped up the MPSF Championships on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the University of Washington campus. The men’s team placed fourth with 75.5 points while the women finished sixth with 43 points.

Saturday was highlighted by two victories on the men’s side as Marcus Nilsson captured the heptathlon title with 5,665 points. With that win, the Bruins took top honors in both the heptathlon and the pentathlon.

Nicholas Scarvelis led a strong showing in the shot put with a victory. Scarvelis heaved the shot put 62-10 to secure the win. Newcomer Braheme Days finished third in the event with a mark of 60-5.75.

The men’s 800m proved to be one of the most exciting of the championship as Nick Hartle just missed the win. Hartle posted a 1:48.86 to place second, just behind the 1:48.84 of Jesse Jorgensen from Washington State. In the high jump, Cody Crampton tied for fourth with a mark of 6-11.

On the women’s side, Brea Buchanan placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.31. Kelsey Smith finished fourth in the mile with a 4:41.73.

The Bruins will train through the week to prepare for the NCAA Championships. The 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested March 14 and 15, at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
