LOS ANGELES - The sixth-ranked UCLA Bruins (3-0) return to action on Friday, March 14 for a single match against No. 4 Florida State (5-0) at USC's Merle Norman Stadium at 5:00 p.m.
The Seminoles have already posted wins over Jacksonville, North Florida, FIU and Louisiana-Monroe and yesterday defeated the defending national champions, third-ranked Long Beach State, 3-2.
The Bruins are 0-1 all-time against Florida State as it was the first-ever opponent for UCLA in sand volleyball in a match at Long Beach State on Mar. 11, 2013. The Seminoles defeated the Bruins 5-0.
The FSU All-American duo of junior Jace Pardon and senior Aurora Davis have lived up to their billing this season as they have gone undefeated without dropping a set in their first five matches of 2014.
They will possibly face the Bruins' #1 doubles team of sophomore Kamila Tan and freshman Jessyka Ngauamo, which is also undefeated with straight-set victories this season over Irvine Valley College, Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State Northridge.
UCLA's #3 squad of sophomores Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye are the other undefeated Bruins at 3-0 on the year. They have only lost one set (21-18 to Cal State Bakersfield), but rallied to win the third, 15-7, over the CSUB duo of Julia Bowen and Hazel Perrens.
The Bruins, under second year head coach Stein Metzger and assistants Jenny Johnson Jordan and Sarah Straton, are 6-7 overall in dual matches after going 3-7 last season. UCLA had a pair of teams reach the 2013 AVCA National Championships, Meg Norton and Kelly Reeves, as well as Nightingale and Becca Strehlow. Reeves became the first Bruin to earn AVCA All-America honors last year.
Following Friday's match, the Bruins will take off two weeks for finals and spring break and return to face Hawai'i in Piper Park in Larkspur, Calif., on Thursday, Mar. 27 at 9:00 a.m. The Bruins will also square off with San Francisco at 3:00 p.m.
