WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Sophomore Mysha Sataraka was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday after helping the third-ranked Bruins to a pair of wins against #6 Arizona last weekend.
Sataraka reached base in five of her seven plate appearances in the two victories on three hits and two walks, hitting the game-tying home run in Sunday's win.
It is Sataraka's second Pac-12 Player of the Week award in the last four weeks, as she also picked up the honor on Feb. 25. UCLA has earned three Pac-12 Players of the Week this season (Alyssa Tiumalu - Feb. 11), and four weekly awards (Ally Carda was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 25).
The Bruins have now earned 70 Pac-10/12 Player of the Week awards all-time. Sataraka becomes the first Bruin since Andrea Harrison in 2011 to earn multiple POW honors in the same season. UCLA also has a Pac-12-best three Players of the Week this year.
The sophomore singled in the first inning on Saturday, which was followed by a double in the fourth. Sataraka would be pinch-run for after her two-bagger, and that run would come around to cross home plate, resulting in the game's lone tally. Sataraka also walked in her last trip to the plate in the sixth.
On Sunday, Sataraka sacrificed runners to third and second on a bunt in the first inning and walked in the third. In the seventh, with the Bruins trailing 4-3, the sophomore smashed her team-leading eighth home run of the season to left-center to equal the score in a game UCLA would win 8-4.
Sataraka leads the team with eight home runs and 30 runs batted in, adding a .356 batting average, 19 runs scored, five doubles, 18 walks, a .753 slugging and a .478 on base percentage.
The Bruins host Arizona on Monday at 5 p.m. at Easton Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks. The first 300 fans in attendance will receive a UCLA softball koozie.
