UCLA To Compete in Evening Session at NCAA Gymnastics Championships

UCLA will compete in the evening session of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships team semifinals. The competition takes place on Friday, Apr. 18 at 7:00 pm CT at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) in Birmingham, Ala.

The Bruins will begin competition on balance beam and conclude on uneven bars, as determined by a random draw conducted by the NCAA on Monday morning. Also competing in the evening session are defending champion Florida, host-team Alabama, Utah, Nebraska and Penn State.

Competing in the afternoon session at 1 pm CT will be LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, Stanford and Illinois.

Friday's team semifinals determine the all-around champion and the qualifiers to the Super Six Team Finals and Individual Event Finals. The top three finishers from each preliminary session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals on Saturday, Apr. 19 at 6:00 pm CT. The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus ties) from the semifinal team and all-around competition will compete in the Individual Event Finals on Sunday, Apr. 20 at 2 pm CT.

The Bruins will start the meet on balance beam, followed by a bye, then floor exercise, vault, another bye and then uneven bars. followed by a bye, uneven bars, balance beam, a bye and then floor exercise. Florida has the Olympic order and will start on vault. Alabama begins on a bye before bars. Utah starts on uneven bars, Penn State has a bye before floor, and Nebraska starts on floor. Rotating with UCLA will be individual all-around qualifier Marie Case from Kent State.

In the afternoon session, Georgia begins on vault, Illinois has a bye before bars, Michigan begins on bars, Oklahoma starts on beam, LSU has the bye before floor, and Stanford begins on floor.

UCLA will be competing in its 30th NCAA Gymnastics Championship and seeking its seventh NCAA title.
