OKLAHOMA CITY - Junior Ally Carda has been named one of 25 finalists for the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association and USA Softball on Wednesday.

Carda, who was named to the Top 50 Watch List prior to the start of the season, leads the Bruins with a 1.23 earned run average, a 20-2 record and 147 strikeouts in 136 2/3 innings. She has 12 complete games, eight solo shutouts and one save, posting five double-figure strikeout games.

At the plate, the junior is tops on the squad with a .385 batting average, 42 hits, nine doubles and 10 hit by pitches. She is also second with 32 runs batted in, 35 runs scored, 71 total bases and a .521 on base percentage, third with a .651 slugging, 22 walks and eight stolen bases and tied for third with six home runs. She leads the team with 10 multiple-hit games and is second with nine multi-RBI contests.

Carda, who had a career-best, 13-game hitting streak from March 9-April 4, has earned four weekly awards this season. She has been the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week twice on Feb. 25 and March 25, while also received USA Softball and NFCA National Player of the Week honors on Feb. 25.

This year's Top 25 is comprised of 12 seniors, 10 juniors and three sophomores, representing 16 schools and five conferences. Just prior to the start of the postseason on May 7, the list will be narrowed to the Top 10. The top three finalists will be announced on May 21, while the winner will be revealed on May 27 prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is voted on by coaches, media and past winners, is in its 13th season. The first winner of the award was former Bruin Stacey Nuveman in 2002.

The second-ranked Bruins play at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. Free audio and live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
