LOS ANGELES - The second-ranked Bruins scored nine runs for the second day in a row and junior Ally Carda hit a three-run homer and pitched a three-hit shutout, as UCLA defeated Stanford 9-0 in five innings on Saturday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improve to 45-5 overall and 16-4 in Pac-12 play, while the Cardinal fall to 29-22 and 4-16 in league action.

Carda retired the first eight batters of the game and the last five, allowing a pair of two-out singles in the third and a leadoff single in the fourth. She struck out a pair in her five innings to move to 26-3 on the season.

UCLA had eight hits, as freshmen Jelly Felix and Gabrielle Maurice each posted a pair.

The Bruins scored three times in the bottom of the second on one swing of the bat. With one out, Felix singled to right-center and senior Jessica Hall singled to right. After both runners were advanced on a sacrifice by sophomore Allexis Bennett, Carda launched her 10th homer of the season to left-center to put the home team up by three.

UCLA added four more in the third. Junior Stephany LaRosa walked to open the frame, moved to second on a ground out by sophomore Mysha Sataraka and advanced to third on an infield single by Maurice. After senior Alyssa Tiumalu was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Felix singled up the middle to score LaRosa with the Bruins' fourth run.

A wild pitch would score Maurice with UCLA's fifth tally. One out later, Bennett singled up the middle to bring in Tiumalu and Felix to increase the margin to 7-0.

In the fourth, the Bruins scored a pair on a Stanford miscue. With two outs, Sataraka walked, Maurice singled to left and both moved up on a wild pitch. Tiumalu then sent a fly ball to right, but it was dropped by Bessie Noll, allowing Sataraka and Maurice to score to make it 9-0, as UCLA would go on to invoke the mercy rule for the 13th time this season.

The Bruins and the Cardinal play the deciding contest of this weekend's series on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game is sold out and will be televised live on ESPN.
