OKLAHOMA CITY - Junior Ally Carda has been named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball on Wednesday.

The award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. This year's finalists are comprised of four seniors, three juniors and three sophomores, representing seven universities and five conferences.

The top three finalists will be announced on May 21, with the winner of the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award revealed on May 27.

Carda leads the Bruins with a 1.71 earned run average, a 27-3 record and 189 strikeouts in 179 2/3 innings. She has 16 complete games, nine solo shutouts and two saves, adding five double-figure strikeout games.

At the plate, she is second on the team with a .401 batting average, third with 11 home runs and tied for first with 50 runs batted in. Carda is also first in hits (61), multiple-hit games (15) and hit by pitches (15), second in multi-RBI contests (13), runs scored (47), total bases (106) and on base percentage (.526), third in doubles (10), slugging (.697) and stolen bases (9) and tied for third in sacrifice hits (5).

Carda entered this week tied for sixth in the nation in victories, tied for 12th in shutouts, tied for 46th in strikeouts and 49th in ERA. Offensively, she is tied for 24th in hit by pitches, 29th in on base percentage and tied for 36th in RBI.

In the Pac-12, the junior ranks in the Top 10 in 15 statistical categories. At the plate, she is first in hit by pitches, fourth in on base percentage, seventh in total bases and tied for seventh in RBI. In the circle, she is tied for first in saves, second in wins, third in strikeouts and fourth in ERA and innings.

Carda has started at six different positions for the Bruins, making 26 starts in the circle, nine at first base, six in left field, five in center, three at designated player and two in right field. She has produced four hitting streaks of at least six games, including a career-high, 13-game stretch from March 9 through April 4. Carda tossed her first career no-hitter in the season opener against Delaware on Feb. 6.

She has earned four weekly awards this season. Carda was the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week twice on Feb. 25 and March 25, while also receiving USA Softball and NFCA National Player of the Week honors on Feb. 25.

The second-ranked Bruins head to #3 Arizona State for a three-game series starting on Thursday at 7 p.m. and continuing Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. All three contests will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
