FORT WORTH, Texas – UCLA redshirt junior Brett Hundley was one of 39 of the nation’s top college quarterbacks named to the 2014 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award watch list, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Wednesday.
Hundley, who was a semifinalist for the award last season, has also been named to the Maxwell Award watch list.
The Chandler, Ariz., native has run for or thrown for a touchdown in each of his 27 games. He enters 2014 ranked third on the school career list in touchdown passes (53) and total offense (7,914) while ranking fourth in passing yards (6,811). In 2013, the redshirt junior rated among the nation’s best in completion percentage (14th-.668), passing efficiency (20th-152.9), touchdown passes (23rd-24), points responsible for (14th-216) and total offense (23rd-293.8).
Hundley became the first Bruin to throw for, run for and catch a pass for a touchdown in the same game during the 2013 contest at Utah. He finished the season with one interception in his last 158 passing attempts and none in his last 77 passes. His completion percentage of .668 was the highest by a Bruin starter since 1983. He was the first Bruin quarterback to lead the team in rushing (748 yards) since 1964.
The Bruins' 2014 football season kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Noon ET at Virginia. UCLA's home opener will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7pm at the Rose Bowl against Memphis.
