Giron Falls to Isner in Three Sets at U.S. Open
By: UCLA Athletics
Flushing, N.Y. - NCAA Champion Marcos Giron put up a strong fight in his Grand Slam debut at the U.S. Open on Tuesday, falling in three sets to 13th-seeded American John Isner at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Giron, who received a wild card to compete in the main draw after winning the NCAA singles title in May, gave Isner all he could handle in the first set, eventually falling in a tiebreaker 7-6(5). Isner controlled much of the second set, winning 6-2, however Giron did not give up without a fight. The three-year Bruin letterwinner took Isner to another tiebreaker in the third set, with Isner taking that set 7-6(2).

Giron played at UCLA from 2012-14, opting to skip his final year of eligibility to turn professional. He will receive $35,754 for playing in the main draw of this year's U.S. Open.

Giron's New York adventure isn't over, as he is set to compete in the American Collegiate Invitational next week. Recent graduate Clay Thompson and UCLA sophomore Mackenzie McDonald will also be competing in the event.
