Dahlkemper, Killion Selected as Candidates for Senior CLASS Award
By: UCLA Athletics
Seniors Abby Dahlkemper and Sarah Killion from the defending NCAA champion UCLA women's soccer team have been selected as candidates for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award. The award honors student-athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the field.

Dahlkemper, a defender from Menlo Park, Calif., was named the NSCAA Scholar All-America Player of the Year in 2013 and earned Capital One Academic All-District second-team honors. A two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, she is set to graduate early in Fall 2014 with a degree in sociology. On the field, she is one of the highest-lauded players in the collegiate game, becoming UCLA's first-ever Honda Award winner a year ago, as well as a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, and earning NSCAA All-America honors in each of her first three years at UCLA. The U.S. Under-23 National Team member anchored a Bruin defense that allowed just eight goals last year and a national-best team goals against average of 0.30. Dahlkemper and the Bruin defense are even better this season, allowing only one shot on goal in four games and shutting out all four opponents thus far.

Killion, a midfielder from Fort Wayne, Ind., is one of UCLA's top student-athletes, majoring in Psychology and holding a GPA over 3.6. She is also set to graduate early in Fall 2014. Killion earned first-team NSCAA Scholar All-American and Scholar All-West Region honors, Capital One Academic All-District second-team acclaim and Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the second-straight year. Killion, who is in her second year as team co-captain, is known as one of the most technically-skilled, consistent and intelligent players in the game. Last season, she led the Pac-12 in assists with 12, the third-highest total in UCLA history. She currently ranks sixth on the school's career list with 23. Killion earned a call-up to the full U.S. Women's National Team for the Algarve Cup in March and is also a regular with the U.S. Under-23 National Team.

Both players have won a pair of championships over the past year, leading UCLA to its first-ever NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship and guiding the LA Blues to their second-straight USL W-League crown.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Each of the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot.
