LOS ANGELES — UCLA (8-2, 5-2 ranked #14 in the Associated Press and 14th in the USA Today Coaches Poll/ 14th in BCS) will battle Arizona State (8-2, 6-1; ranked 19th AP and 22nd USA Today/ 17th BCS) on Saturday, Nov. 23. The game will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. PT and be televised by FOX with Gus Johnson (play by play), Charles Davis (color) and Kristina Pink (field reporter) calling the action. The Bruin IMG Radio Network (Chris Roberts, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook) will air the contest on am 570 Fox Sports Radio. The contest will also be broadcast on SIRIUS (Ch.136), XM (Ch. 205). All UCLA football games can also be heard live on smart phones and tablets via the free TuneIn App. Westwood One will also air a national radio broadcast of the contest with John Tautges, Rocky Boiman and Jason Horowitz mikeside.

BRUINS AND SUN DEVILS — The Bruins lead the series, 18-10-1. UCLA has won the last two meetings by a total of three points. Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 33-yard field goal as time ran out provided the difference last season in Tempe. There was more than 1,000 yards of offense generated in that contest. Brett Hundley, playing a few miles from where he went to high school, drove the Bruins 65 yards in 12 plays into field goal range. UCLA had taken possession on their own 20-yard line with 1:33 to play. Hundley completed four of his five pass attempts for 45 yards on the drive. In 2011, at the Rose Bowl, Derrick Coleman rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns to help UCLA get past 20th-ranked Arizona State, 29-28. Coleman ran for 81 of his yards in the second half of action and 65 of those yards came on the game-winning drive which culminated with the senior running back slamming into the end zone with 49 seconds to play.

HONORARY CAPTAIN — Quarterback John Barnes will serve as this week’s honorary captain. Barnes, a walk-on who transferred to UCLA after UC Santa Barbara dropped its football program went on to enjoy a magical senior season in 1992. Injuries to Wayne Cook, Rob Walker and Ryan Fien moved him up the depth chart during the season which culminated with a standout performance in a 38-37 win over USC. In that game, Barnes completed 16 of 28 passing attempts for 385 yards and three scoring tosses of 57, 29 and 90 yards to J.J. Stokes. The 385 yards passing ranked third at the time on UCLA’s single-game best chart.
BOWLING — UCLA is bowl eligible in 2013. It has played in bowl games in nine of the last 11 seasons (not 2010, 2008).
