UCLA Set to Host ASU in Key Pac-12 South Matchup

LOS ANGELES — UCLA (8-2, 5-2 ranked #14 in the Associated Press and 14th in the USA Today Coaches Poll/ 14th in BCS) will battle Arizona State (8-2, 6-1; ranked 19th AP and 22nd USA Today/ 17th BCS) on Saturday, Nov. 23.  The game will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. PT and be televised by FOX with Gus Johnson (play by play), Charles Davis (color) and Kristina Pink (field reporter) calling the action. The Bruin IMG Radio Network (Chris Roberts, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook) will air the contest on am 570 Fox Sports Radio. The contest will also be broadcast on SIRIUS (Ch.136), XM (Ch. 205).  All UCLA football games can also be heard live on smart phones and tablets via the free TuneIn App. Westwood One will also air a national radio broadcast of the contest with John Tautges, Rocky Boiman and Jason Horowitz mikeside.

BRUINS AND SUN DEVILS — The Bruins lead the series, 18-10-1. UCLA has won the last two meetings by a total of three points. Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 33-yard field goal as time ran out provided the difference last season in Tempe. There was more than 1,000 yards of offense generated in that contest. Brett Hundley, playing a few miles from where he went to high school, drove the Bruins 65 yards in 12 plays into field goal range. UCLA had taken possession on their own 20-yard line with 1:33 to play. Hundley completed four of his five pass attempts for 45 yards on the drive.  In 2011, at the Rose Bowl, Derrick Coleman rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns to help UCLA get past 20th-ranked Arizona State, 29-28. Coleman ran for 81 of his yards in the second half of action and 65 of those yards came on the game-winning drive which culminated with the senior running back slamming into the end zone with 49 seconds to play.

Several Bruin coaches have also served at Arizona State - Steve Broussard (2010-11 wr coach); Noel Mazzone (2010-11 off. coord.); Taylor Mazzone (2010-11 off. asst.); Eric Yarber (2007-09 wr).

**Anthony Barr has 36.0 tackles for loss in his two seasons as a defensive player… Barr is 8th in the nation in forced fumbles at 0.40/g; Barr is ranked 15th in TFLs 1.5/g; Barr is 15th in the nation in fumbles recovered (0.30);

**In the last 18 games, UCLA has gone 13-5 with the five losses to Oregon (9-1 record this season), Stanford (3xs/8-2) and Baylor (9-0); four of the five losses have come in games played away from the Bruins home field in the Rose Bowl

**UCLA is ranked 14th in the latest BCS Standings, after sitting at No. 13 a week earlier which was its highest listing since Nov. 28, 2005 when the Bruins were 12th after rising as high as fifth in late October that year.

**The win over Washington gave UCLA its first 5-0 home start since the 2005 season when it posted a 6-0 home mark

**Five touchdowns against Washington were scored by defensive players (LB/RB Myles Jack 4, DE/TE Cassius Marsh 1)...The sixth came on WR Devin Lucien’s first career scoring catch

**The Bruins are 15-0 under head coach Jim Mora when ahead at the half

**Myles Jack’s total of four rushing touchdowns established a new true freshman record (old mark 3 - Wendell Tyler,1972 and DeShaun Foster, 1998)...The last Bruin with more than four rushing touchdowns=Maurice Jones-Drew, 5 in 2004

**S Anthony Jefferson has led the team the past 5 games with 44 tackles; others include Jordan Zumwalt 40 tackles (4.0 for loss); other last five game numbers: Cassius Marsh and Eddie Vanderdoes along the line (19).

**The last time the Bruins were ranked as high as 14th in the AP poll, for a game as late as Nov. 22nd, was in Dec. of 2005 (11th)

**The Bruins are 10-3 vs. the teams placed in the P12 South (Utah 2-1, USC 1-1, Colorado 3-0, ASU 2-0, Arizona 2-1); UCLA went 5-0 against the Pac-12 South last season and is off to a 3-0 start this season with ASU and USC remaining to play

**Eric Kendrick’s blocked field goal v. Washington was the 12th kick blocked by the Bruins since Jim Mora became head coach

**UCLA is 13-3 under Coach Mora when scoring first, 9-0 when doing so at home

**With the win v. Washington, Coach Mora has 17 wins in his first two seasons at the helm tying him with Tommy Prothro, 1965-66 for the most during the first two seasons as Bruin head coach

**This is the first time these two teams have met with each team ranked (AP) since #15 UCLA played #16 ASU in a 1986 game

**Senior defensive end Cassius Marsh caught a scoring pass v. Washington to mark the second straight season he has done so on offense. (also 2012 at Cal)

**PK Ka’imi Fairbairn has connected on 17 straight FG attempts from 35 yards and in and 9 of his last 10 from any distance.

**Defenders Myles Jack, Jordan Zumwalt, Keenan Graham, Kenny Clark, Eddie Vanderdoes, Cassius Marsh each saw action on offense for the Bruins against Washington (Brandon Willis is considered a TE)

**Barr has been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award as the Nation’s Top Defender and the Rotary Lombardi (Most Outstanding Down Linemane/LB ... He is also a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy

**WR Shaquelle Evans has caught at least one pass in the last 25g and a scoring pass in six of this season’s first 10 games

**UCLA established a new school record for most true freshmen playing in a season (18) at Oregon ... It played 15 in the 2013 opener; 15 RS freshmen have also seen action this season. UCLA played 26 total freshmen in ‘12 -- 12 true /14 RS freshmen.

**QB Brett Hundley has thrown at least one scoring pass in 23 of his 24 career games (not at Stanford - 2012)...He has thrown for multiple scores in 16 of those contests -- Over the last three games, Hundley has completed 63 of his 90 attempts (70%).

**UCLA matched its school record total of seven true freshmen position starters vs. Colorado (OG Alex Redmond, OG Scott Quessenberry, OT Caleb Benenoch, Y Thomas Duarte, LB Myles Jack, LB Isaako Savaiinaea, DL Eddie Vanderdoes) ... At Oregon DL Kenny Clark joined Redmond, Quessenberry, Benenoch, Duarte, Jack, Vanderdoes)...Punter/KO Sean Covington would make it eight true freshmen starting those two games.

**QB Brett Hundley has rushed 68 times for 260 yards and four scores over the last six games.

**UCLA is bowl eligible. It has played in bowl games in nine of the last 11 seasons (not 2010, 2008).

**This is the first time UCLA has opened in and remained ranked by AP through all listings of a season since 1998 and the first time it has put together back-to-back (9-5 last yr) at least eight win seasons since 1997 and 1998’s 10-win seasons

**Y Receiver Thomas Duarte hauled in his second scoring pass of the season at Oregon joining Devin Fuller, 2012/Ryan Moya 2005/ DeShaun Foster 1998/ Brian Poli-Dixon 1997/ Brad Melsby 1995 behind true freshman school record holder Raymond Burks who had a total of three scoring catches in 1973

**Hundley is two shy of school record holder Cade McNown’s total of 12 300-yard total offense games after his 375 yard-effort against Colorado...He racked up a personal best 428 yards of total offense earlier this season vs. Cal.

**UCLA is wearing a No. 36 patch on its uniform to honor the memory of Nick Pasquale, a redshirt freshman receiver from San Clemente, CA, who passed away in a tragic accident on Sept. 8.

**UCLA has won 21 of its last 26 games when winning the turnover battle (81%) and owns a 16-33 record in its last 49 games (33%) when losing or tying the turnover ratio

**UCLA is 7-4 in true road games (3-2 in ‘13) under Coach Mora...Last year, the Bruins won as many as four road games in a season for the first time since 2002 (4-2 on road in 2012)

**UCLA has won 13 of its last 14 games when it limits the opponent to less than 100 rushing yards (1-0 in ‘13, 3-0 in ‘12)

HONORARY CAPTAIN — Quarterback John Barnes will serve as this week’s honorary captain. Barnes, a walk-on who transferred to UCLA after UC Santa Barbara dropped its football program went on to enjoy a magical senior season in 1992. Injuries to Wayne Cook, Rob Walker and Ryan Fien moved him up the depth chart during the season which culminated with a standout performance in a 38-37 win over USC. In that game, Barnes completed 16 of 28 passing attempts for 385 yards and three scoring tosses of 57, 29 and 90 yards to J.J. Stokes. The 385 yards passing ranked third at the time on UCLA’s single-game best chart.

BOWLING — UCLA is bowl eligible in 2013. It has played in bowl games in nine of the last 11 seasons (not 2010, 2008).
