The fifth-ranked UCLA women's golf team moved into a third place tie after the third round of competition Thursday at the NCAA Championship in Athens, GA at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

The Bruins posted a team score of 297 (+9) and had a 54-hole score of 873 (+9). UCLA was tied with Purdue and Alabama. USC remained in first place at 845 (-19) following its third consecutive under par round (285, -3). Duke was second at 862 (-2). Arizona State (876, +12) and Stanford (879, +15) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

For the Friday's final round, UCLA Coach Carrie Forsyth hoped to coax more aggressive play from her team.

"We didn't have everybody play the way they wanted to play, and the way you need them to play," said Forsyth. "We're going to talk about it and I think maybe we erred on the side of playing too timid today and we need to adjust that for tomorrow. We need to be more aggressive and more confident. We just need to get out there and play better."

Sophomore All-American Erynne Lee was UCLA's only player under par through three rounds: tied for seventh at 214 (-2) after carding a 73 (+1) on Thursday. A double bogey at the second hole put her at two-over par, before she dropped back to even par with birdies at the fourth and sixth. A bogey at nine gave her a 37 going out and she made nine straight pars on the inward nine.

"It was a tough round today," Lee said. "I didn't start off great, but I came back in the front nine and had a steady back nine. I was disappointed because I missed a lot of putts out there, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with my rounds so far. I just want to play my own game tomorrow and play well."

Tied for 24th place were seniors Lee Lopez and Tiffany Lua at 219 (+3). Lua posted the Bruins' low round of the day, an even par 72. Lopez had a 77 (+5). Freshman Louise Ridderstrom was tied for 40th place at 221 (+5) after carding a 75 (+3), and junior Ani Gulugian signed for an 82 (+10) and was tied for 116th at 233 (+17).

USC's Annie Park was the 54-hole leader at 207 (-9) after a two-under par 70 in round three.
