UCLA Wins Allstate Sugar Bowl at English Turn
By: UCLA Athletics
The second-ranked Bruins posted a team score of 843 (-21) and set a 54-hole tournament record. They won by six shots over top-ranked USC (849, -15). Florida finished third at 858 (-6), followed by fourth-place Denver at 866 (+2) and Clemson in fifth at 868 (+4).

Head Coach Carrie Forsyth, who’s won 52 career tournaments, attributed the victory to consistent putting.

: "We putted quite well the last two rounds, starting out yesterday afternoon making some putts,” she said. “Our team usually hits it pretty well and we hit it pretty close. The thing is whether or not we can make our putts. We were able to do that the last two days and that was a big part of (winning) today."

Hot putting enabled the Bruins to distance themselves from the field yesterday and build a four stroke cushion entering the final round. In Monday’s afternoon round, the Bruins set a single round tournament record by posting a score of 277 (-11), which was ignited by junior All-America Erynne Lee’s six-under 66.

"Without knowing the conditions here -- with the amount of rain we were having and if we were going to be able to play each day -- every shot become so important because you don't know how many holes you're going to be able to get in or how many rounds you're going to be able to complete,” she continued. “We were really in a mindset that we were going to go out and attack the course.”

The Bruins assaulted the leader board, placing all five starters in the Top 20. Freshman Alison Lee was UCLA’s top finisher, tying for third place at six-under par 210 following a final round 70 (-2). Erynne Lee tied for sixth at 211 (-5) after posting a 74 (+2) on Monday. Sophomore Louise Ridderstrom recorded her lowest career 54-hole score and tied for 11th at 213 (-3) following a 70 (-2). Senior Ani Gulugian recorded her best three-round total of 2014 by tying for 14th at 214 (-2) after posting a 71 (-1), and freshman Bronte Law carded a 70 (-2) in the final round to tie for 17th at even par 216. Playing as an individual competitor, junior Brittany Mai placed 87th.

Auburn’s Marta Sanz won medalist honors with a three-round total of 208 (-8) following a 68 (-4) in the final round.
