TULSA, OK -- The Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced its annual awards Friday night and UCLA coaches and players earned two of the top honors.

Freshman Alison Lee was named the WGCA Division I Freshman of the Year and Alicia Um Holmes was voted the Eaton Golf Pride WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Lee also won the GolfStat Cup, awarded to the player with the best season scoring average.

Lee, 19, was ranked No. 1 among collegiate players most of the season, and ended the year on top of the GolfStat rankings with a 71.02 scoring average and three individual victories. She played 34 rounds this season in 22-under par, and led the team with 19 rounds under par and 10 rounds under 70.

Um Holmes, who completed her eighth season as the Bruins’ assistant coach, won her award for outstanding service to the UCLA golf program and for continuous improvement as a coach.

“Alicia’s talents are many and her attitude is outstanding,” said Forsyth. “She is a vital member of our coaching staff and a caring and supportive mentor to our players. She deserves much of the credit for our program’s excellence on the course, in the classroom, and in the community.”

Lee and Um Holmes became the first in program history to win these respective honors.

In addition, the WGCA announced its All-Region Teams and Alison Lee and junior Erynne Lee were named to the 2014 All-Central Region for their play in leading the Bruins to the NCAA Central Region title.
