LOS ANGELES, CA. -- UCLA sophomore Alison Lee won a pair of match play contests Thursday at the 114th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, NY.

In her Round of 32 match, Lee beat University of Colorado graduate Jennifer Coleman 2 & 1. In 19 holes, she beat the University of Washington’s Eimi Koga in the Round of 16.

Against Koga, a birdie-par start gave Lee a 2-up lead, which she increased to 3-up with a par at the fifth. A bogey at the eighth cut the lead to 2-up and a missed three-foot putt for par at the 10th narrowed the lead to 1-up. Hoga evened the match at the 12th with a par after Lee missed a long putt for par.

At the 13th, Koga drove into the right rough and Lee hit her tee shot into the left rough. Lee’s approach landed 15 feet from the cup after Hoga hit hers in a greenside bunker. Hoga blasted out to 18 feet and made the par putt before Lee drained her birdie putt to take a 1-up lead.

Both players made par at the 14th. At the 15th, Hoga’s two-putt par beat Lee’s bogey, which resulted from a missed five-foot putt. The match was all-square once again.

At the par 3 16th and the par 4 17th, both players made par. Lee's birdie putt at the 16th lipped out 360 degrees.

“I thought that would have been a good chance coming down the stretch,” said Lee. Saying she “brushed that off,” she again needed to brace herself when faced with a 10-foot birdie putt at the 18th.

“On the last hole, when [Koga] made her [birdie] putt, I had a few negative thoughts going through my head,” said Lee. “I fed myself positive thoughts and thankfully it went in.”

Lee ultimately won on the 19th green, when Koga failed to get up and down for par, and Lee converted her two-putt par.

In her early match against Coleman, Lee never trailed, but made just one birdie in her round. After halving the first two holes, she took a 1-up lead with a par at the third. Coleman evened the match with a birdie at the sixth before Lee made her only birdie at the seventh to regain her one-hole lead. At the 10th, she made a par to move to 2-up. The next seven holes were halved as both players made nothing but pars.

In Friday’s quarterfinal match, Lee meets Brooke Mackenzie Henderson of Canada at 12:55 p.m. EDT.
