First round four-ball pairings for the 2013 Palmer Cup at Wilmington Country Club were announced at Thursday's opening ceremony. The first match of the Ryder Cup-style competition between collegiate golfers begins at 7:30 a.m. (ET).

UCLA seniors Pontus Widegren and Pedro Figueiredo, 2013 Second-Team GolfWeek All-Americans, will be representing Europe in the annual competition. Widegren, from Sweden, will be making his fourth straight appearance and Figueiredo, from Portugal, his first.

In 2012-13 Widegren set a UCLA scoring record of 70.4 and played 31 rounds in 14-under par. He also tied a UCLA 54-hole record with a score of 198 (-18) when he won the Cal State San Marcos Invitational in the Fall.

Figueiredo won twice in 2013, capturing the The Prestige (205, -8) and the Western Intercollegiate (204, -6). He ended his UCLA career with three career tournament victories.

Afternoon foursomes matches are scheduled begin at 2:00 pm with pairings to be determined.

The United States leads the all-time Palmer Cup series 8-7-1.
