The Bruins, ranked 22nd in this week’s coaches poll, are part of a 15-team field that includes top-ranked Alabama, second-ranked California and Oklahoma State, No. 4 Georgia Tech and fifth-ranked Georgia. Also from the Pac-12 are No. 8 Stanford and Arizona State.
Earlier this week, Chan and Garrick were included on a watch list for the 2014 Palmer Cup. The two sophomores are UCLA’s highest ranked players, and each is scoring better than 71.0 for the season. Chan, ranked 20th nationally by GolfStat, leads the team with a 70.1 scoring average, and is 19-under par through 15 rounds. Garrick, ranked 22nd, is 16-under par with a 70.3 season average.
Hwang is next, averaging 71.4, followed by Pinizzotto at 72.5 and Arboleda at 72.7. Of these three, Arboleda recorded the best finish in the Bruins’ last event, tying for 16th place at one-under par at The Prestige.
Southern Highlands will play to a par of 72 over 7,510 yards. The first round begins on Fri., Mar. 7 and the tournament continues through Sun., Mar. 9. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. Pacific Time each day.
