On Monday, the Bruins will tee it up at the Floridian Golf Club in a tournament co-hosted by the University of Houston and the University of Arkansas. Following that event on March 25, the Bruins will fly back to California to compete in the Stanford Invitational, Mar. 28-30.
Featured in the 15-team field at the Floridian GC are third-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 4 Georgia Tech, ninth-ranked Illinois and No. 12 Florida State.
Head Coach Derek Freeman has announced the following lineup for both tournaments: senior Anton Arboleda, juniors Manav Shah and Matt Pinizzotto, and sophomores Jonathan Garrick and Lorens Chan. So far this season, this fivesome has not competed together as a team in any competitions.
UCLA’s best finish this season was a runner-up result in its first tournament of the year at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate. At that event, Chan led the team by tying for third place with a three-under par 54-hole score of 213.
Garrick and Chan are leading the team in scoring average this season. Garrick ranks first at 70.7, and is 13-under par through 18 rounds. Chan is next at 71.6, and is six-under through 18 rounds. Both players have recorded nine rounds under par.
Shah, a fourth-year junior, has not competed since November, but ranks third in this group with a scoring average of 72.8 in nine rounds. Pinizzotto is next with a 73.2 scoring average in 12 rounds, followed by Arboleda at 73.6.
The Floridian GC will play to a par of 72 over 7,114 yards. Teams will play 36 holes on Mon., Mar. 24 followed by the final round on Tues., Mar. 25.
