Release:  06/12/2014

After four years at UCLA, rower Carolina Paini is poised to embark upon the next chapter of her life with degree in hand. A shining example for all student-athletes, Paini, a double major in Geography and French, has excelled both in competition and in the classroom, earning CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors three-straight years while working her way up from UCLA walk-on to U.S. Under-23 National Team member.

Paini served as an integral part of UCLA’s women’s rowing program the last four seasons, stroking the second varsity and varsity eight crews during her sophomore, junior and senior years. During her final three seasons with the rowing program, UCLA advanced to the NCAA Championships, finishing as high as eighth overall in 2012 and ninth in 2013.

Paini, a resident of Costa Mesa, Calif., joined the rowing team after a two-week tryout process as a freshman in the fall of 2010. She quickly became one of UCLA’s top freshman rowers in 2011 and established herself in the second varsity eight as a sophomore in 2012. Through her final three seasons, Paini rowed in the stroke seat of the team’s top two varsity eights.

A dedicated, hard-working rower, Paini also showed her strong work ethic in the classroom. After having declared to major in geography, she also pursued a double major with French. Her ability to excel both academically and as a top rower led to Paini capturing CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She was honored as a Pac-12 All-Academic Team selection as a sophomore and junior and secured honorable mention All-Academic accolades as a senior.

Get to know Paini and hear her story in UCLA's first I Am ... video feature.
