Hundley Named to Watch List for Davey O'Brien Award
By: UCLA Athletics
LOS ANGELES - UCLA's Brett Hundley was one of 34 quarterbacks in the country named to the watch list for the 2013 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award on Wednesday, as he is seeking to become the first Bruin player to earn the award since Troy Aikman in 1988.

Hundley, a redshirt sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., had a record-setting debut season in 2012, establishing new school marks for single-season completions (318-old mark Drew Olson, 2005 -242), single-season passing yardage (3,740 yds-old mark Cade McNown, 1998-3,470 yds) and single-season total offense (4,095 yds-old mark Cade McNown, 1998-3,652 yds). A starter in all 14 games, Hundley scored a touchdown on his first collegiate play, a 72-yard run in the season-opener at Rice. His 404 yards of total offense against Oregon State was the second-highest ever by a Bruin freshman (Tommy Maddox 445 v. USC, 1990) and the fifth-highest in school history. His 31 completions at Cal were the most-ever by a Bruin freshman and ranks third on the all-time school list. Hundley established a new school single-season completions record (finished season with 318) during the Bruins' 38-28 victory over USC ... Set a new school single-season total offense record (finished season with 4,095 yards) in the Pac-12 Championship Game at Stanford and also set a new school mark for passing yards in a season (finished with 3,740 yards) when he threw for 329 yards and three scores in the Holiday Bowl. Hundley's total of 29 scoring passes ranks second on the all-time school list (Drew Olson 34-2005). He had 355 yards of total rushing on the year, scoring nine touchdowns. Hundley was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 in a vote of league coaches. He also received the John Boncheff, Jr. Memorial Award for Rookie of the Year at the annual team award banquet.

Hundley is one of five Pac-12 quarterbacks on the watch list, joining Stanford's Kevin Hogan, Arizona State's Taylor Kelly, Oregon's Marcus Mariota and Washington's Keith Price. The Pac-12 ranked second to the SEC (7) in total selections.
