Football Update: San Bernardino Day Three

San Bernardino, Calif. - The Bruin football team was on the athletic fields at Cal State San Bernardino for day three of practice on Friday afternoon. The squad continued to work at a fast tempo during both individual and team drills.

After the evening meetings, the squad will get ready for day four in San Bernardino on Saturday and the first two-a-day session of the camp. UCLA will take the practice field at 8:30 a.m. in the morning for practice No. 1. The second practice of the day has been moved up to 6:00 p.m. (Note: practice was originally scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.).

Some former Bruins were in action as the NFL pre-season football schedule kicked off on Thursday and Friday. Some highlights included: S Tony Dye had a tackle for the Bengals; Christian Yount and Kevin McDermott were the long snappers for the Browns and 49ers; TE Logan Paulsen caught three balls for 21 yards, K Kai Forbath handled the placekicking chores for the Redskins; CB Alterraun Verner was in action for the Titans; S Rahim Moore started for the Broncos and had a tackle and a fumble recovery, DB Aaron Hester had a pass defense and a special teams tackle, LB Damien Holmes recorded a tackle; RB Derrick Coleman had two special teams tackles, three catches for 18 yards and one rush for three yards in the Seahawks opener; Mike Harris was in action at tackle for the Chargers; TE Joseph Fauria had one catch for two yards, WR Matt Willis made three receptions for 51 yards and a TD, WR Terrence Austin made four grabs for 35 yards while in action for the Lions; TE Marcedes Lewis had two catches for 15 yards for Jacksonville, RB Maurice Jones-Drew was not active; DL David Carter made one stop for Arizona; RB Johnathan Franklin made two catches for 12 yards and rushed six times for 14 yards for the Packers. Franklin also returned a punt and a kickoff; Datone Jones played but did not stat; OL Jeff Baca was in action for Minnesota and Jeff Locke punted five times for a 39.2 average with two inside the 20.

UCLA opens the 2013 football season at home in the Rose Bowl on August 31 (7:00 p.m. PT). The Bruins then take to the road for game two and visit Nebraska (Sept.14, 9:00 a.m. PT). Fans heading to Cal State San Bernardino (5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407) should plan on bringing their own chairs, as there are no bleachers around the practice fields. Parking ($5 daily charge) can be secured at the parking kiosk off the Coyote Drive entrance to the university or at the pay stations in the parking lot. Plenty of parking is available in lots (Lot G is closest to field) within a short walk of the practice site located on the east side of the campus.
