Hundley and Jack Named to Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List
By: UCLA Athletics

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – UCLA redshirt junior quarterback Brett Hundley and sophomore linebacker Myles Jack have been named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2014 Player of the Year watch list, the organization announced Friday.

The watch list of 50 student-athletes will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November.  The 2014 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 125 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 11.  The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s annual national awards banquet on January 17, 2015 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.

The Chandler, Ariz., native has run for or thrown for a touchdown in each of his 27 games. He enters 2014 ranked third on the school career list in touchdown passes (53) and total offense (7,914) while ranking fourth in passing yards (6,811). In 2013, the redshirt junior rated among the nation’s best in completion percentage (14th-.668), passing efficiency (20th-152.9), touchdown passes (23rd-24), points responsible for (14th-216) and total offense (23rd-293.8).

Hundley became the first Bruin to throw for, run for and catch a pass for a touchdown in the same game during the 2013 contest at Utah. He finished the season with one interception in his last 158 passing attempts and none in his last 77 passes. His completion percentage of .668 was the highest by a Bruin starter since 1983. He was the first Bruin quarterback to lead the team in rushing (748 yards) since 1964. Hundley has also been named to the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award watch lists.

Jack became the first player in history to be voted both the Conference Offensive and Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2013. He was inserted into the starting lineup at linebacker in game two of the season and his 75 tackles were the second-most ever by a Bruin true freshman defender.

Jack saw action on offense for the first time in game nine and finished the year with 267 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. His four rushing scores against the University of Washington set a school record for a true freshman player. He has also been named to the Bednarik Award, the Hornung Award, Butkus Award, Lombardi Award and the Bronco Nagurski Trophy watch lists.

The Bruins' 2014 football season kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Noon ET at Virginia. UCLA's home opener will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7pm at the Rose Bowl against Memphis.
