Two Bruins Honored by Pac-10

Quarterback Matt Kegel of Washington State, linebacker Brandon Chillar of UCLA and kicker Justin Medlock of UCLA have been named Bank of America Higher Standards Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Chillar, a senior from Carlsbad, Calif., led UCLA's defensive effort in its 6-3 victory against Illinois. Chillar posted a game-high 13 tackles, eight solo, and had an interception. The Bruin defense did not allow a touchdown and limited the Illini to 67 yards rushing and 283 yards total offense and picked off three passes.

Medlock, a freshman from Fremont, Calif., connected on two field goal attempts from 28 and 48 yards to provide all of UCLA's points in its 6-3 win against Illinois.

Kegel, a senior from Havre, Montana, directed Washington State to a 47-26 upset win at No. 17-ranked Colorado. Kegel completed 17 of 33 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. The touchdown passes covered 74, 77 and 12 yards.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were wide receivers Demetrius Williams of Oregon, Skyler Fulton of Arizona State and Biren Ealy of Arizona, quarterback Matt Leinart of USC and running backs Steven Jackson of Oregon State and Manuel White of UCLA. Also nominated on defense were safties Erik Coleman of Washington State, Jason Leach of USC and Clay Hardt of Arizona and linemen Bill Swancutt of Oregon State and Jimmy Verdon of Arizona State. Punters Kyle Basler of Washington State and Tim Parker of Arizona State, kicker Ryan Killeen of USC and return man Syndric Steptoe of Arizona were nominated for special teams play.
