Dear Bruin Fans,

Welcome back to another year of exciting college football!

For those of you that don't know me, or did not have the opportunity to read my "Notes" last year, my name is Ryan Nece. I am a fifth-year senior from San Bernardino, California. I have started at linebacker for the Bruins for the past three years and will continue to play that position in this - my final year.

Speaking of final years, this year's team has 24 seniors in their last year of football! But, this is not just any old class - this is a group of men set out on a mission. This mission started with some key goals: (1) to win the National Championship, (2) to win the pac-10 championship, (3) to be in the best physical shape of our college careers, and (4) to have no regrets. After setting these goals, we knew the only way we were going to have a chance at obtaining them is through hard work. HARD WORK=SUCCESS.

Therefore, this year's senior class worked harder than it ever had before in the off-season. For example, many of the players not only worked-out every day with our strength coach, but also took it upon themselves to go the extra mile and workout twice a day. In so doing, an example was made to all the younger players on how serious the seniors were about having a memorable season, as well as what was expected of them as the newest members of the team. Another ingredient that is needed to obtain these goals is leadership. This group of guys provides more leadership than ever, and is not afraid to let someone know if they are deviating from the path of successŠ as they know that any distraction can cause a team to lose focus and fall short of its goals. One of the most important things a team needs to even have a chance at these goals is a core group of playmakers. There is no doubt that this year's class is full of talented athletes that will be playing football for a long time. Across the board, this may be one of the best senior classes in the nation. We, as a senior class, have a responsibility not only to ourselves but also to our families, to our fans, and to alumni to leave this school as winners.

Going into camp this year, our team is faster and stronger than it has ever been. This is in direct correlation to all the hard work that not only the seniors did, but also what the whole team did this summer. Throughout camp the excitement and enthusiasm was displayed as both the offense and defense became better each and every day. The one thing on everybody's mind was September 1st , and we all know that the only way we are going to reach our goals is with a win in Alabama. With the help of the coaches and the seniors, everyone is well aware that we have to suffer the rigorous routine of two-a-days (practices) to reap the benefits of the future.

We'll see you on September 15th at the Rose Bowl when we play the Arizona State Sun Devils!

Sincerely,
Ryan Nece
