Final Stats

SEATTLE (AP) - Isaiah Stanback tossed three touchdown passes and linebacker Dan Howell returned an interception 33 yards for a score with 6:02 left as Washington rallied for a 29-19 victory over UCLA on Saturday.

Howell, who missed last week's win to be at his father's funeral service, stepped in front of Ben Olson's pass and ran untouched into the end zone. Howell was mobbed by his teammates.

It was Washington's first win over the Bruins since 2000 - UCLA had rallied to beat Washington the past three seasons - and the Huskies (3-1, 1-0 Pac-10) won consecutive games for the first time since 2003.

Stanback overcame a horrible start by Washington's offense, which managed minus-4 yards in the first quarter and didn't get a first down by run or pass until there was 2:48 left in the first half.

Stanback was 18-of-29 for 200 yards, and the three touchdown passes were a career high. Two of the scoring passes went to Sonny Shackelford, who finished with nine catches for 120 yards.

Stanback also rushed for 48 yards and his 4-yard TD pass to tight end Johnie Kirton with 7:32 left gave Washington its first lead at 22-19.

UCLA kicker Justin Medlock had field goals of 28, 23, 51 and 22 yards. UCLA (2-1, 0-1) scored on its first four possessions, but the Bruins stalled inside the Washington 10 on three occasions in the first half and once in the second half after Terrence Austin returned a punt 79 yards to the Washington 9.

Olson was unimpressive in his first college road start, going 18-of-31 for 135 yards and two interceptions. Chris Markey rushed for 124 yards, but had only 22 in the second half. Washington's defense allowed just 83 yards to UCLA in the second half.

Washington's offense found its rhythm late in the second quarter. Stanback completed a 17-yard pass to Quintin Daniels with 2:48 left in the half. Stanback then completed his next four passes, and after two imcompletions, hit Shackelford for a 23-yard touchdown on third-and-10.

Washington scored on the opening possession of the second half, when Shackelford caught a short pass, made two UCLA defenders miss badly and sprinted for a 28-yard TD.

UCLA's lone touchdown came after Washington punter Sean Douglas mishandled a wide snap from Danny Morovick on the Huskies' first possession. Douglas was tripped up at the Washington 6 and two plays later Markey leaned over from the 1.

Last week, Howell returned home to Southern California for a funeral service for his father, Keith, who died Sept. 10 after complications from heart surgery.
