Quarterback David Koral and linebacker Dan Nelson have signed national letters of intent to attend UCLA, head coach Karl Dorrell announced today.

"We are pleased that David and Dan have decided to become Bruins," said Dorrell. "Quarterback is obviously a position of need for us and we feel David will be able to come in contribute immediately. Dan will also have the opportunity to compete for playing time. Being here for Winter and Spring quarters will benefit both of them because they will be able to participate in our off-season training program and gain experience in Spring Practice."

Koral (6-2, 210) enjoyed a successful sophomore season at Santa Monica (CA) College, completing 155 of 281 passes (55.2%) for 2,202 yards, 18 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He is expected to enroll for Winter Quarter and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

In 2000, he earned prep All-America honors from PrepStar magazine and was rated the No. 6 quarterback in the West. In his final two years at Palisades High School, he passed for almost 9,000 yards. As a senior, he accounted for 4,057 yards and 44 touchdowns while as a junior, he threw for 4,902 yards, including a national prep record 764 yards versus Van Nuys Grant High, and 57 touchdowns. Koral signed with Vanderbilt out of high school.

Nelson (6-1, 240) will enroll in Winter Quarter and will have four years to complete three seasons of eligibility. He was named honorable mention Junior College All-American this past season at Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ.

Koral and Nelson join defensive lineman Kyle Morgan, tight end Matt Raney and offensive lineman Marc Villafuerte as new Bruins.
