LOS ANGELES - Senior wide receiver Danny Farmer and senior safety Joey Strycula were selected winners of UCLA's Henry R. "Red" Sanders Award for Most Valuable Player Thursday night at the 81st Annual UCLA Football Awards Banquet, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Farmer, who was hampered by injuries throughout the 1999 season, still made 29 receptions for a team-high 573 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 19.8 yards per reception. He concluded his career ranked No. 1 in UCLA history and No. 4 in Pac-10 Conference history with 3,020 receiving yards and No. 2 at UCLA with 159 receptions.
Strycula, in his first season as a starter, was one of just four Bruins to start all 11 games in 1999. The former walk-on led the team with 69 tackles, broke up a team-high 13 passes and tied for second on the squad with three interceptions. He also served as hold on all place kicks for the third straight year.
