UCLA Team Notes

  • UCLA went 6-0 in the Rose Bowl this season, marking just the second time the Bruins have won six regular season games in the Rose Bowl (dating back to the 1982 season).
  • UCLA leads the all-time series with Arizona State, 14-7-1. UCLA has won the last three meetings played in the Rose Bowl (2003, 2001).
  • Cowan's touchdown catch marked the second time this season the Bruins have scored a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage. In the season opener against San Diego State, Maurice Drew ran for a 64-yard touchdown on the Bruins' first play from scrimmage.
  • Chris Markey (career-high 120 yards), Joe Cowan (career-high 109 yards) and Marcedes Lewis (108 yards) combined to form the first trio of Bruins ever to have 100+ yards receiving in the same game. The last time UCLA had two 100-yard receivers in the same game was vs. Oregon in 2002 (Craig Bragg, 230 yds.; Tab Perry, 126 yds.).
  • UCLA had 660 yards of total offense to rank fifth on UCLA's all-time single-game list. The Bruins' 510 yards of passing ranked second all-time.

    Drew Olson Notes

  • UCLA quarterback Drew Olson threw a 91-yard touchdown pass to Joe Cowan on the game's first play from scrimmage to set a new school record for single-season touchdown passes with 26. He went on to throw four more touchdowns in the game to increase his school record to 30. Olson has 63 in his career, five behind all-time leader Cade McNown.
  • Olson moved into a tie for seventh with Andrew Walter (ASU, 2004) on the Pac-10 charts for single-season touchdowns (30) and also moved into 10th in the Pac-10 for career touchdowns (63).
  • Olson finished the game with 510 yards passing, the second-highest single-game mark in school history (McNown owns the school record with 513 against Miami in 1998) and the second-highest passing total in the Pac-10 this season. It is also the fifth-highest total in the NCAA this season.
  • Olson threw for 295 yards in the first quarter alone and finished the half with 315 yards passing. He had four throws for 40 yards or more in the first quarter - 91 to Cowan, 56 to Chris Markey for a touchdown (new career-long reception for Markey), 60 to Gavin Ketchum (career long for Ketchum), and 44 to Marcus Everett.
  • Olson was 12-12 in the second half with 195 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Olson's 91-yard touchdown pass to Cowan was the fourth-longest pass completion in school history, as well as the fourth-longest play from scrimmage.
  • Olson finished the game with 501 yards of total offense to move into fourth place on UCLA's single-season total offense list with 2,848.

    Marcedes Lewis Notes

  • After scoring two touchdowns in the game, tight end Marcedes Lewis moved past Brian Poli-Dixon and Jojo Townsell into second place on UCLA's career touchdown receptions list with 21. Only J.J. Stokes (28) had more in his career.
  • Lewis had 108 receiving yards to improve his career mark to 711 yards. He moved past Mike Seidman (631 career yards in 2002) on the UCLA all-time TE single-season list.
  • He also moved past Karl Dorrell into 14th place on UCLA's career receiving yards list with 1,541.
  • Lewis had seven receptions to improve his career total to 123, good for 9th on UCLA's career receptions list.

    Maurice Drew Notes

  • Maurice Drew scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, his 19th touchdown of the season. He needs just one more touchdown to move into a tie for second place on UCLA's single-season list. He moved up to fourth place on UCLA's single-season points list with 114.
  • Drew had 113 all-purpose yards to move into fourth place on UCLA's single-season list with 1,653.

    ASU Notes

  • ASU's Derek Hagan had seven receptions to break Troy Walters' (Stanford, 1996-99) Pac-10 record for career receptions with 249.
