Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell
"This was a frustrating game. The team played hard, but there were some signs of the things we can do offensively, and I took a lot of positives out of this first game." "It's a team effort. If we didn't have those two turnovers it's a completely different game." "It's unfortunate that we lost, but we have 10 games left, and we know we have a lot of work to do." "Just like most games, they're determined by miscues, and we had four turnovers that were crucial turnovers that generated enough offense for the opponent to get some scores." "The results were disappointing but the effort was good. The effort was where we wanted it to be. We have to play more within the structure of what we do offensively and defensively, and that's part of the growing curve you deal with when you have young players. They're going to make mistakes no matter how hard you try to get them ready. They're going to make mistakes, and I made mistakes when I was a young player. These young guys have to get used to the college field. It's hard to simulate game speed in practice; they'll get better. Experience is going to help these guys in the process of learning the college game." "Offensively we've come a long way. It was good to see some production on that side. I'm very happy about the direction this offense is going." "Defensively, we did some things to try counter-balance their running game, and our defense did improve in the second half, but we weren't effective enough. They still made some good plays, but we'll continue to get better." (On quarterback Drew Olson's play) "Both interceptions, one was a tip, and you can't control tips. The second one looked like a bobbled catch, and the db made a good play. He (Drew Olson) played well. He'll take it badly, though, because he shows a lot of leadership with this offense. I'm encouraged with what I saw. He knows he can do a lot better, and the whole team knows that all of us can do better." "Manuel (White) played well. It was good to have him back."

Oklahoma State head coach Les Miles
"It was a nice start to the season. I thought the guys played awfully well. I really think it was the offensive live and the running game that we relied on from start to finish. Defensively, we played extremely well late in the game and forced some turnovers. They gave us an extra possession late, which turned out to be the difference in the ball game." "Anytime you go on the road, you have to be smart with the ball. We played a very smart game in that way." (On Donovan Woods): "He gave us exactly what we asked for. I thought he played tremendous in his first game. He's a physically mature guy. I want him to take care of that body, but I wasn't concerned at all (on the touchdown run). He showed some real athleticism on that play, breaking into the open and making some guys miss. That's something that he can do."
