Redshirt sophomore quarterback Ben Olson (Thousand Oaks, CA/Thousand Oaks HS) of the UCLA Football team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (Aug. 28-Sept. 4).
Olson made the most of his first collegiate start and first start since his senior year of high school in 2001, completing 25 of 33 passes for 318 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions during UCLA's 31-10 win over Utah. Olson completed passes to 10 different receivers and had four completions of at least 20 yards and 14 of at least 10 yards. He completed his first nine passes, with the first eight going to eight different receivers. He was 15 of 20 for 159 yards and one touchdown in the first half and 10 of 13 for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the second half. His 318 yards rank No. 3 on UCLA's all-time list for quarterbacks starting their first game and the most-ever in a victory. Olson, who was nominated for the ESPN/Cingular All-America Player of the Week Award, currently ranks seventh in the nation and first in the Pac-10 in total offense (322.0) and 12th in the nation and second in the conference in passing efficiency (186.7).
This is Olson's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
