THE SERIES VS. CALIFORNIA - The Bruins lead the series, which dates back to a 1933 meeting, 48-27-1. The teams have split the last six meetings with each squad emerging victorious in its home stadium. The last UCLA win in Berkeley came in the 1998 season by the score of 28-16.

UCLA won last year's matchup by a score of 47-40 in the Rose Bowl. Maurice Drew scored a school record-tying five touchdowns in the come-from-behind Bruin win. Cal jumped out to an early 14-0 lead only to see the Bruins tie it on the first of Drew's scores early in the second quarter. Cal led 27-21 at the half, but saw UCLA take its first lead in the contest on an 81-yard punt return by Drew with 7:33 to play. Cal scored the next 13 points in the game to take a 40-28 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Bruins then scored three touchdowns in the final 7:30 of the game to earn the win over the then #10-ranked Golden Bears. Drew Olson ran one-yard for the first score. Drew took a pass from Olson 28-yards for a touchdown with 1:35 on the clock to give the Bruins a 41-40 lead. Trey Brown intercepted a Cal pass late in the game to preserve the win and Drew scored as time expired for the final tally in the thriller.

In the last game in the series played in Berkeley, ninth-ranked Cal bested the Bruins 45-28, despite four touchdown passes by Drew Olson. Cal jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the game, only to see the Bruins tie it on scoring passes to Marcedes Lewis and Maurice Drew. Cal took a 21-14 lead just before the half and opened up a 35-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Scoring passes to Drew and Joe Cowan made the margin 38-28 with 2:39 to play in the contest, but it was as close as the Bruins would come.

NOTING CALIFORNIA - The Golden Bears' lone loss was at nationally-ranked Tennessee in the season-opening contest. Running back Marshwan Lynch is ranked 11th in the NCAA in rushing with a 113.38 mark that leads the Pac-10. Quarterback Nate Longshore is ranked 16th in the NCAA and first in the Pac-10 in passing efficiency with a mark of 151.7. Receiver DeSean Jackson is among the national leaders in receiving yards per game (23rd at 77.75) and punt returns (11th at 14.29).

The Bears rank seventh nationally in total offense with 440.50 yards -- 268.5 (13th in NCAA) in the air and 172.00 on the ground (28th in NCAA). Defensively, Cal is fifth in turnover margin (1.25).

Longshore has completed 140 of 224 passes (62.5%) for 1,877 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He leads the Pac-10 in pass efficiency (151.7) and yards per game (234.6).

Jeff Tedford, a native of Downey, CA, is in his fifth year as head coach of the Golden Bears. He had previously served as the offensive coordinator at Oregon and Fresno State. He is 2-2 versus UCLA.
