Sept. 20, 2008

Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes

  •  Today's loss was just the eighth home loss over the last five-plus seasons. The Bruins' home record during this time is 25-8. UCLA is 17-4 in the last 21 games played in the Rose Bowl.

  •  UCLA still leads the overall series with Arizona, 19-12-2, and the Bruins are now 8-3-1 against the Wildcats in the Rose Bowl.

  •  This was Arizona's first win over UCLA in the Rose Bowl since a 33-7 victory in 1999.

  •  The loss was UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel's first against Arizona. He was 4-0 against the Wildcats entering today's game.

  •  Aaron Perez's first two punts went 50+ yards and were downed inside the two-yard line.

  •  Perez tied the school record for punts in a game with 11, marking the second time he has done so in his career (last at USC in 2007). Four others have also had 11 punts in a game - Darren Schager vs. Washington State in 1992, Bob Heydenfeldt vs. Wisconsin in 1952, Bob Moore vs. Stanford and Purdue in 1950, and Bob Waterfield vs. Cal in 1944 and Santa Clara in 1942. Perez finished the day with four 50+ yard punts.

  •  Korey Bosworth recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown in the first quarter to give UCLA a 7-3 lead. It was UCLA's first fumble recovery for a touchdown since Kenneth Lombard vs. Stanford in 2006.

  •  Chane Moline rushed for a career-long 40 yards late in the second quarter for UCLA's longest run of the season. His 72 yards rushing today surpassed his previous single-game career-high of 62 yards, also against Arizona in 2007.

  •  Terrence Austin's three punt returns (16 yards) moved him into a tie for sixth with Ernie Johnson (1946-49) and Joe Sabol (1950-52) on UCLA's career punt returns list with 46. Austin also had five kickoff returns for 96 yards, five receptions for 36 yards and one rush for seven yards for 155 all-purpose yards.

  •  UCLA finished the game with a season-high 115 yards rushing.

  •  In the third quarter, the Bruins had their first successful fourth down conversion (previously 0-for-2 on the year) with a two-yard rush by Kevin Craft.

  •  Three Bruins made their first starts in today's game - WR Taylor Embree, C Jake Dean and LB Steve Sloan.

  •  Three true freshmen played for the first time today - RB Derrick Coleman, DE Datone Jones and OL Jeff Baca.

  •  Today's attendance was 65,434, marking the 10th consecutive game UCLA has drawn over 60,000 to the Rose Bowl.
