The Bruins (5-2, 2-2) continued their work for Saturday's Pac-12 Conference game (12:05 p.m. on FX) at Arizona State (5-2, 3-1) this morning on Spaulding Field. UCLA leads in the overall series by a count of 17-10-1 and owns a 7-5 edge in games played in the desert.
Bruin Notes ---- UCLA has won 14 of its last 18 games when it has an edge in the turnover battle. The Bruins are ranked seventh in the nation in sacks (3.29 per game) this season. Cornerback Sheldon Price is tied for fourth in the nation in interceptions (0.67 per game). Linebacker Anthony Barr, playing his first season on defense, is ranked tied for eighth in the nation in sacks (1.07 per game.) Running back Johnathan Franklin (878 yards this season) is attempting to join seven other Bruin backs who have had multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons -- DeShaun Foster (2001, 2000); Skip Hicks (1997, 1996); Karim Abdul-Jabbar (1995, 1994); Gaston Green (1987, 1986); Freeman McNeil (1980, 1979); Theotis Brown (1978, 1976); Wendell Tyler (1976, 1975). UCLA has played in bowl games in eight of the last 10 seasons (not in 2010, 2008). Jeff Locke leads the Pac-12 with 21 punts placed inside the twenty-yard line and with 36 touchbacks on kickoffs.
