Senior running back Derrick Coleman has been nominated for the FRS Running Back Performance of the Year, an honor which is based on fan voting on Facebook throughout the season. Coleman has been named a week nine nominee after his standout game in the Bruins' victory over Arizona State.
Coleman tallied 119 yards rushing and two touchdowns during the game, including the go-ahead score in the final minute of play, to help the Bruins to victory. The more support the Bruin fan base can give, the better chance Coleman has to make the finals, and, ultimately be named the Running Back Performance of the Year.
From now until the end of Bowl season, the two top running backs of the week will be featured on the All-Star Football Challenge Facebook page, along with two top individual performers among quarterbacks, receivers and defensive players. The top weekly vote-getter will proceed to the finals, which run Jan. 19-25.
With less than a minute remaining and the ball at the one-yard line, Coleman pounded his way through the Arizona State defense for the go-ahead score. UCLA was unable to capitalize on the two-point conversion, but watched ASU's last-second field goal attempt sail wide to come away with the 29-28 upset win. Coleman ran for 119 yards and scored two touchdowns and was an instrumental part of UCLA's game-winning drive.
The other week nine nominee for FRS Running Back Performance of the Year is Baylor's Terrance Ganaway. In a 52-49 win over Missouri, Ganaway ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns, including one run of 80 yards.
The FRS Running Back Performance of the Year is part of a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season. The winners will be revealed during the two hour All-Star Football Challenge special airing at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 3 on ESPN2. In addition to recognizing the season's top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football's biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13 year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge.
Coleman has also been nominated as one of the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl Pac-12 Players of the Week, another honor based on fan voting. Fans can vote for Coleman through Wednesday morning by clicking here. The other nominees include Matt Barkley (USC, QB), Eddie Pleasant (Oregon, DB) and John White (Utah, RB).
