Three more Bruin seniors have been invited to participate in post-season football all-star games. Defensive backs Andrew Abbott and Sheldon Price, along with linebacker Damien Holmes have joined the list.
Price has been invited to play in the annual East-West Shrine Game to be held on Jan. 19 in St. Petersburg, Fla. (NFL Network will televise the contest at 1 p.m. PT). He tied with Abbott for the team lead in interceptions with four this season and added a blocked field goal attempt. Price matched the school record with three interceptions in a game against Houston.
Abbott and Holmes, both team captains, are set to participate in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl put on by The NFL Players Association on January 19 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State University Dominguez Hills. Abbott was selected as one of 10 semi-finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy which honors the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. He earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Holmes notched 10 tackles for loss this season and 5.5 sacks, each career-best totals. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown.
These Bruins join running back Johnathan Franklin, punter Jeff Locke and defensive lineman Datone Jones - each headed to the Jan. 26 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. (NFL Network will televise the game at 1 p.m. PT). Y receiver Joseph Fauria and offensive lineman Jeff Baca are also set to participate in the 2013 East-West Shrine Game.
