The Bruins continued work on Spaulding Field this morning in preparation for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl battle with Baylor on Dec. 27 in San Diego. It will be the first meeting between UCLA and the Bears on the gridiron. The game will be televised by ESPN beginning at 6:45 p.m. PT.
Rady Children's Hospital has been chosen as the beneficiary for the 2012 bowl game. Bridgepoint Education has pledged to donate $1 for every Holiday Bowl ticket sold to the local hospital. Both teams will send player representatives to the hospital for a visit during Bowl Week.
In other news, punter Jeff Locke has been selected as a finalist for the Lee Roy Selmon Community Spirit Award. The Award recognizes outstanding performances both on and off the field of play and in the community. Locke has also been invited to the Senior Bowl along with defensive end Datone Jones and running back Johnathan Franklin. This year's all-star game will be played on Jan. 26 in Mobile, AL. It will be televised by the NFL Network at 1 p.m. PT. Offensive lineman Jeff Baca and Y receiver Joseph Fauria have been invited to the East - West Shrine Game. That contest will be played in St. Petersburg, FL on Jan. 19 and be broadcast by the NFL Network beginning at 1 p.m. In some NFL news, running back Kahlil Bell has been signed by the Chicago Bears.
