The Bruin football team conducted its first two-a-day practice sessions on Thursday at Cal State San Bernardino. The team hit the field at 8:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. The squad is off on Friday, before returning to the field for practices on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Please continue to check the website for practice time changes / updates.
"We have had seven really good practices," said head coach Jim Mora following Thursday's second practice. The Bruins went live during goal line and short yardage drills in the evening session, but cut back on the overall length of practice as they wait for some of the sidelined players to get back in the mix. Tomorrow the team will get away from football, on the field, and after a couple of meetings, will enjoy a few fun activities.
In the morning, the team ran an exciting two-minute drill. Kevin Prince connected with Shaquelle Evans on a long scoring pass to open up the drill which sent the entire offense running towards the end zone to celebrate. Jerry Johnson made a nice catch on a long pass during another drive. Safety Tevin McDonald came away with an interception in the end zone to stop a drive. The kicking competition between Ka'imi Fairbairn and Justin Moreno continued with a multiple field goal shootout from various distances between the two ending the morning practice.
If you cannot make it to San Bernardino to check out the Bruins in person, make plans to be on campus in Westwood on Saturday, August 18 for a Meet the Bruins Day in Drake Stadium from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Fans will be able to get autographs and photos of the players and coaches, food trucks will be on site and there will be a Kids Zone and more.
UCLA opens the 2012 football season on the road with a game against Rice on August 30 (6:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. PT). The Bruins then return home to the Rose Bowl for three straight games --- Nebraska (Sept. 8, 4:30 p.m.), Houston (Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon State (Sept. 22, time TBA).
