Anthony Barr To Return to UCLA for Senior Year

Dec. 31, 2012

Los Angeles -- UCLA junior linebacker Anthony Barr has decided to return for his senior season of football in 2013. Barr, who played running back during his first two years, shifted to linebacker this past season for the 9-5 Bruins, who captured the Pac-12 South Division championship.

A first-team All-Pac-12 selection, Barr led the team with 13.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss in 2012, ranking among the nation's top 10 in each category heading into the bowl games. His sack total ranks second on the all-time school single-season list and his tackles for loss rate fourth on that school list. He registered 83 tackles on the season, a figure which ranked second on the squad.

Barr was recognized as a 2012 second-team All-America selection by the Associated Press, si.com, CBSSports.com, FoxSportsNext and Phil Steele. He was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year in the conference by collegefootballnews.com. In addition, Barr earned honorable mention on the All-Pac-12 Academic team, as picked by the conference office.

Statement from Anthony Barr: "I have carefully explored my options and have decided to continue my football career with UCLA. I felt a strong connection with my teammates and coaches that I do not want to see end. I will continue to pursue my degree and take part in the team drills after the Holidays. The time will come soon enough to live my dream of playing at the next level."

Statement from Bruin head coach Jim Mora: "Anthony considered his options and we are glad he has chosen to stay with his teammates to continue the mission to move Bruin football forward in the new year."
