EUGENE, Ore. - Despite a season-high in passing yards, UCLA dropped its first Thursday night game since 1993, losing to No. 1 Oregon at Eugene.

The Bruins are now 2-2 this season versus teams ranked in the Top 25.

Playing without starting quarterback Kevin Prince (knee), leading receiver Nelson Rosario (ankle), kick returner/receiver Josh Smith and starting F-back Morrell Presley, UCLA started strong, driving into Duck territory with the opening possession before an interception halted the scoring threat.

Defensively, the Bruins were without starting cornerback Sheldon Price and lost middle linebacker Patrick Larimore in the first quarter with a dislocated left shoulder.

True sophomore quarterback Richard Brehaut, making only the second start of his career, completed 16 of 23 passes for 159 yards and scored a touchdown on a six-yard run. His passing yardage was a season high for the Bruins.

Redshirt sophomore running back Johnathan Franklin led the Bruins with 69 yards and maintained his ranking as the No. 2 rusher in the Pac-10. Tight end Cory Harkey made a career-high four receptions.

Defensively, true junior free safety Rahim Moore and redshirt junior cornerback Courtney Viney, making his first start of the year, led the team with eight tackles each. Moore had one tackle for loss while Viney broke up two passes. True junior strong safety Tony Dye, tied for the team tackle lead on the year, added seven stops and also broke up two passes.

Senior place kicker Kai Forbath kicked field goals of 25 and 48 yards. He now has 82 career field goals, just three shy of the UCLA career record of 85 and just five shy of the NCAA mark of 87.

UCLA returns to the Rose Bowl on Oct. 30 when it hosts Arizona at 12:30 pm. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net (Prime Ticket in Los Angeles).
