2016 NFL Draft
Bruin WR Taylor Embree Checks In with 82 Review

Jan. 31, 2011

What's up Bruins?

Winter break is over and we are almost half way through winter quarter. We are now set to begin our fourth week of workouts and recently started throwing and conditioning.

After the break all the returning players came back hungrier than ever to get in the weight room and on the field knowing we have a lot of work to do during this off-season. These past three weeks in the weight room have been full of energy and competition, coach Linn and his staff have done a great job of making conditioning and lifting competitive which ultimately brings out the best in every individual on the team.

Last week was the first week that we had conditioning and "finishers" (drills that create competition amongst individuals from each position group). Our finishers for the week had individuals from each group of skills, mids, and bigs in a plate pinch competition. We had to pinch and carry a 45lb plates in each hand while we went from end to end on the football field. These finishers are done after our regular lifting and force us to end the week with intense competition. I have to give a shout out to the 9 am lifting group which has left everything they have in the weight room.

Perhaps the highlight of returning from winter break was seeing the improvements to our weight room. The new weight room was nearly unrecognizable. There are a variety of new machines and new racks which include their own TVs and a giant 100-inch TV in the front of the room. Every day I enter the room I am blown away by the new improvements. It is exciting as a player to have a state-of-the-art facility to train in, especially when most of the work during the off-season is done in the weight room.

During the afternoons we have player-run practices where we go through position drills and do some 7-on-7. This is a great opportunity for individuals to work on their craft and experiment with their techniques. The qb's have done a great job of being leaders and running the drills. Last week was the first time, Brett Hundley, our new freshman QB was able to throw with our first group of WRs. He did a great job of calling plays and ended the drive with a perfect pass in the back of the end zone. Richard Brehaut has connected on a few tight-window passes and is really stepping up and taking a leadership roll on the offense. Kevin Prince is still recovering from his knee injury, but he has been throwing with individuals at the end of every session.

The team is very energized and eager to improve which has been displayed through all the hard work we have put in during the beginning stages of off-season. It is still early in the off-season, however, I am excited about the attitude and dedication of the team.
