Joseph Fauria was selected on Monday by the Nassau County Sports Commission as one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award. The Award annually recognizes the nation's top player at the tight end position.
Fauria caught his ninth scoring pass of the season last week against Washington State. It was his 17th career scoring catch overall and marked the 18th straight game in which he had made a reception. His total of nine scoring grabs this season is the most by a Bruin player since Marcedes Lewis hauled in 10 touchdown passes in 2005 and ranks tied for eighth on UCLA's all-time single-season list (J.J. Stokes with 17 is first on that list). Fauria is tied for seventh on the school career touchdown reception list (Stokes is first on that list with 28). The senior's 73 career receptions rank tied for third on UCLA's all-time tight end list.
The 2012 John Mackey Award finalists will be announced on Monday, November 19, 2012 at www.johnmackeyaward.org.Listed alphabetically, the eight semifinalists are Jack Doyle (Western Kentucky); Tyler Eifert (Notre Dame); Zach Ertz (Stanford); Gavin Escobar (San Diego State); Joseph Fauria (UCLA); Ryan Otten (San Jose State); Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Washington); and Zach Sudfeld (Nevada).
