Sept. 11, 2012
Senior running back Johnathan Franklin (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey HS) of the UCLA football team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 4-9.
Franklin ran for a career-best 217 yards in a 36-30 victory over 16th-ranked Nebraska and also had career-highs in catches (3) and receiving yards (59) with one touchdown. Franklin's total of 3,100 career yards puts him in seventh on the all-time school rushing list, and he had his 12th career game of over 100 yards rushing to tie for sixth on that school list. He also became the third Bruin back to record as many as three 200-yard rushing games, joining Gaston Green (1985-1986-1987) and Karim Abdul-Jabbar (three in a row in 1995).
After two games, Franklin (215.5 yds/g) sits as the nation's leading rusher, and his rushing average alone is higher than that of 90 FBS schools.
This is Franklin's second consecutive UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of his career.
